1890s Little Paris style house in Bucharest’s Calea Calarasi area. It is a dwelling typical of the middle classes of the La Belle Epoque period, made to resemble an aristocratic palace, reflecting the aspirations of those who built it, but of a basic, quite uncomfortable design, with small, very tall rooms.
Another reason why the rooms were exaggeratedly tall, was to protect against fire hazard from the candle lighting (the ceiling had to be well above a wall candle, to avoid catching fire).
